Adolescence – Season 2: release date, cast, plot and everything you need to know about the sequel to the Netflix series

We all agree that Adolescence is the TV series of 2025. But will there really be a second season? And, if so, what will it be about?

If you missed Adolescence, the Netflix series that many are already calling the best of 2025, now is the time to fix it. Composed of four intense episodes, each shot in a single, impeccable shot-sequence, the series created by Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham (also the protagonist) and directed by Philip Barantini, tells the story of Jamie Miller (played by Owen Cooper), a thirteen-year-old accused of the murder of his classmate, Katie. Starting from this tragic event, Adolescence explores the community's reactions and the profound implications that this drama unleashes. The heart of the narrative revolves around a single question: Why?

Just one month after its release, the series has become a phenomenon not only for its record-breaking viewership but also for the heated debate it has generated. In a recent exclusive interview with Deadline, producers Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner – co-presidents of Plan B, Brad Pitt’s production company – confirmed that they are already in early discussions with Barantini about a possible “next iteration” of the series. Will there really be a second season? And if so, what will it be about?

Adolescence – Season 2: When is it released

Talks are still in the early stages, so it is unlikely that the second season of Adolescence will arrive before the end of 2026 or, more realistically, in 2027. It should be remembered that the idea for the series was born after the success of Barantini’s film Boiling Point, which starred Stephen Graham himself. That film also inspired another series by the same director, also shot in a single take. Even Brad Pitt wanted to support the project, eager to work with Graham again after Guy Ritchie's cult film Snatch.

Adolescence – Season 2: The possible synopsis

The first season deliberately left many questions unanswered. The creators' goal was precisely to stimulate reflections on crucial issues, such as the impact of social media and online hate on young people, particularly regarding misogynistic ideologies.

There are several hypotheses for the second season:

  • Continuing Jamie's story: following the trial, the time spent in the juvenile center, the public reaction and family relationships.
  • Exploring the same story from another perspective, for example, that of Katie's family.

  • Tackling a new case that touches on current issues among teenagers, from pressure on aesthetic standards to addictions to the world of cryptocurrencies and online scams.

Adolescence – Season 2: The Cast

For now, the producers are hoping for the return of Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne as writers. It is not yet clear, however, whether Graham will also reprise his role in front of the camera. The cast will obviously depend on the narrative direction that the new season will take: if it is a direct sequel, we will see the same actors in their roles. If, instead, it is a new chapter on another adolescent theme, we could see a complete change of protagonists.
